school started today...

..and I'm so excited!!! aaah:) The student orientation started at ten this morning, and it was great. You could definitely feel the american spirit in the room...:D There were a lot of teachers speaking, and other staff, I think I heard "Welcome to berkeley, you've made an excellent choice!" at least 32 times.
Afterwards I had lunch with some of the other new students, and we got free pizza and soda from school...healthy school lunch huh, but hey whatever...this is america..pizza it is lol. I have like zero body fat, so, I don't care! But maybe I better be careful, I might look different in a few months if I keep eating like this, I mean, I had chocolate pizza yesterday...which was outrageous..my god..I felt like I was in heaven or something...melted chocolate, march mellows and hazelnut...mmm...I'm gonna be a regular there..that's for sure!

So tomorrow I have my first classes...gosh...I can't wait!! This fall I'll be attending four courses in total, college reading skills, computer essentials, psychology and.....Introduction to fashion business! YEY I love this feeling of having your whole future in front of you...this morning I really felt that my life is about to begin.so watch out New York...Gus has come here to stay!!!

It's still summer by the way...hot, sunny and amazing!

LOL..look what I found on fifth avenue:)

forgive me father..

for I have sinned..I realised that yoko ono lives two blocks away from me..not in the same..hope you'll forgive me!

Well, now I've finally moved into my room. It is OUTSTANDING, and I still can't believe I got this offer. Even people that I talk to here in the city have a hard time understanding how I found this, for this price. I guess I have to thank my lucky star that is shining on me every now and then. THANK YOU!

Yesterday I bought two framed pictures for my room. The first one is like a dreamy picture of manhattan skyline, and the other one is showing central park in the winter time and lights from the buildings in the background. I hanged them over my bed:) I must tell you about the bed also, I mean WOW. I haven't slept this well in a looong time, and I guess the yellow painting on my wall also is an explanation. I've heard the color yellow makes you feel relaxed and calm.

I remember people telling me, before I crossed the atlantic ocean: Don't get fat over there!
I think many people who haven't been to the US realise that this country is soo big and versatile. I mean, New York is so not typical USA. It is its own country, really. People here are so influenced by the multicultural touch, e.g food, that you actually adapt more easily to eat healthy and non-typical-american-too-much-cheese-and-fried food. The situation differs significantly from state to state of course, but what I'd like to say is that the whole of north america is not suffering from being totally exposed to unhealthy food. Yes, there are many places here in the city where you can have tons of buffalo wings and a super-extra-large-coke, but the responsibility lies with you, as everything else in this country. And here in New York City, you can definitely eat healthy, if you want to.

can't sleep..

It's now 5.30 in the morning. I woke up like an hour ago from this terrible nightmare. I dreamt that someone tried to cut my arms, as it would help me to adjust to my new life..scary shit.
So now I'm lying here, in my "fake bed" from Bed, Bath and Beyond, in the living room. I can't wait to move into the other room, but another guy will be staying there until next week. The apartment is very nice, in the middle of upper west side in manhattan. Yesterday, when I was heading to central park for a walk, I realised that Yoko Ono lives in the same house block as I, how cool is that?!? AAH:D

My roomates are very helpful and nice to me. The owner of the apartment calls me sunshine in the house. I do have a tendancy to lighten up the area around me, I guess it's my blonde hair :P
This week I've been hanging out with this Finnish girl that I met on registration day, Pauliina, and she's great. We went to a Swedish restaurant the other day called Smörgås, and they had yellow flowers everywhere and I ordered a Meat Ball Burger lol, very tasty!! The funny thing though was that mostly of the waiters were from India or Bangladesh I think, at least from that area of the world. If it wasn't for these stupid rules that you can't work without a social security number, I would have applied for a job there immediately. I mean, I'd be perfect for it, wouldn't I?;) lol

Another thing here in NY is that you see at least one weird person a day. For example, this guy is sitting in front of me on the subway, and he has some breast (do you say breast?) tics. His breast were constantly moving up and down to some kind of rhythm lol. I do not know though if he did that on purpose, but it looked like he wasn't thinking of it.

That's all for now!

unpleasant surprise

This Monday was a hot day, and the manhattan heat is nearly unbareable, but you just have to cope with it I guess. Actually, today I was walking around in the East Village and went by the old café at st marks place where I've gone a couple of times when I've been here, and found out it had been replaced by a new lunch/brunch restaurant. I entered and ordered an alugura salad which was very tasty yum!

After getting tired of all the walking in downtown manhattan, I took a break and sat down at starbucks and started to study a little English grammar. As a matter of fact I do have a test on Wednesday where I need to show my grammar and writing skills, and I thought I could need some grammar refreshing. Also, it's a typical New York style to sit at starbucks with your mac and a café laté beside you. Unfortunately, I couldn't manage to carry around my mac book, so it was just a laté and my exercise books. But I felt great:)

Sitting at starbucks, I thought I'd call Daniel, the guy offering a room in the Bronx. He sounded nice, and we decided to meet tomorrow during the afternoon. So I guess tomorrow night, after the bronx visit, I need to make a choice; Bronx or Manhattan. The answer is obvious I guess, and the rate doesn't actually differ that much. Though Daniel is much more my age, Bronx is far away and the commuting will force me to get up really early in the mornings. But the manhattan space is not available until September 20th, so if I choose that room I willl have to find a cheap hotel where I can live before moving in.

I just have to tell you a last thing before breakfast, is that yesterday I went by the Bloomingdales (famous shopping mall here in the city). They have really nice clothes, but suddenly my eyes caught the most unpleasant surprise. They're selling the fucking canada goose jackets, and I can't fucking believe it. A BIG NONO, that's what it is. Though I've had one myself, like three-four years ago, they are out and unfashionable! Get rid of them!

NOO!

Barf!

an eventful day

This Sunday was an eventful day, sunny and warm too. Me and my dad had breakfast at a cosy little place named Blooms café, located on Lexington avenue. I ordered one of my favorites, french toast wth sausage and a large glass of milk. I'm definitely a coffee person, but the regular american coffee tastes kind of bad, so milk it is!:) I do feel like a little kid ordering that in a restaurant, but what you're gonna do. I must say though that Starbucks is my second home, and there I order different kinds of latés, but strawberry frappuccino, MY GOD...mmmm heaven!

Today I also got myself a refill card for my cell, so now I'm officially reachable here in the US, and I don't have to use my swedish number which is sooo expensive. If any of my friends are reading this blog to follow up my american adventure, just e-mail me about the number, and if you're coming to visit we can get in touch!

I also bought my first digital camera of my own today. We went to this place called B&H on ninth avenue, which is said to be a really good electronic store. When we actually entered, there were Jews, everywhere lol, both behind the counter and crazy shopping ones. I just walked around and smiled, thinking this can only happen in America. Finally, after hysterical customers in front of me, I got the camera. It's really cool and small, black and stuff.

After me and my dad had had lunch in Little Italy, we split up. He was heading towards the shopping malls and I went back to the hotel. By impulse, I dialed one of the numbers that I've got on the roomates website. His name was William, and we decided to meet right away. When he told me the address, I went like ohh, upper west side in manhattan. That could work:)
After I had viewed his apartment and the room that he offered, I thought, this is it! It was P-E-R-F-E-C-T, both the location and the room itself, and not crazy expensive. So, I'm really thinking about taking the offer, but I will probably go see another apartment in the bronx tomorrow, but manhattan is so much better of course, closer to my school and all other things.
Well, I'll give you an update as soon as I know about where I'm gonna live. But it looks like it's gonna be in manhattan. I'm soooo happy right now, I could run the marathon and do a lap of honor lol.
Now when I'm writing this, it's early monday morning and Labor day:) The weather looks good!

Running lane..

Don't you just love it..running lane in Central Park

Pilot; first day of a new life

This Saturday finally came, the day that I've looked forward to for a really long time. The plain took off approximately at eleven o'clock in the morning, and during the whole flight I felt a continual rush in my veins. A rush that represented hopes and dreams for the future.
We arrived during the afternoon at Newark airport, where the sun was shining bright. We got into a cab, taking us to Manhattan in New York. This is my fifth time here, but this time it's definitely going to be a longer stay. Three weeks from now, I'll start at Berkeley College where I will be studying Fashion Marketing & Managment, on a Bachelor Degree program. I thought that this blog would be a perfect way for me to begin thinking, writing, practicing English before my studies start.
The things that happened today aren't so groundbreaking actually, I mean me and my dad have checked in at a hotel on E 42nd street in Midtown Manhattan. Here we're gonna be staying for about one week, and during these days I will search and hopefully find a place to live. Currently I have contact with three different people having available rooms for rent, and I'm meeting one of them on Tuesday afternoon and the other two before or after, I haven't really decided when to meet them. So tomorrow I'll try to call the other two, and see if they're up for a date;)
But the most important feeling today, is that I actually already feel great about being here. This is center of the universe, and everything is right here. The people, pulse..you name it. Long live New York City.
